From the Beginning to the Fringe

Cast member Oli Thompson tells us what it's like as a newcomer to get involved in the Oxford comedy scene. When I miraculously got into Oxford University as an English Literature and American Studies graduate student, I knew right away that I wanted to get involved in comedy. I’d always been a writer, but the student comedy circuit seemed so alive and prestigious. Some of my favorite comedic minds had studied there, and I wasn’t going to allow this opportunity to go to waste. Little did I know that as soon as you try to get involved, there’s not exactly anyone holding out a sign saying, ‘bodies needed for comedy show.’ As an Oxford fresher, I spent many an afternoon nervously scanning social media pages looking for an opportunity to arise.
